New weeeeeeeeeeek! Starting with a wonderful time at Clachan Sands in North Uist! What a wonderful and stunning beach! Couldn’t have wished for a better start of the week and I should definitely do that more often.
Now since the residency is over, we are back to normal in the college. I started on the recordings and it’s slowly going forward. But. I only had the whole mp3 file to work on not the different tracks. Means you can only make changes to the whole file and not only for the piano or whatever instruments or track needs to be changes. Nevertheless I started on mixing the track and I really heard a difference! I was still only doing it for a few hours in between the lessons at college and that’s just not enough time! I couldn’t fully focus on the whole thing and that really annoyed me. If I do something I want to do it good and do the best I can. So that’s why: I will not do the mixing now, but wait till the following week, because that is when we have our last VC and all the assignments are done. Then I will import the wav file which means I can change certain tracks of the whole recording and fully focus on that, because all the uni work is done. In the end the result will be much better if I do it that way!
Next week is the last week of VC’s and then we’re off to the Christmas holidays. Can’t wait! But before that there is a few things that need to be finished, as for example a recording project for one module. Additionally I have my gaelic conversation exam next Friday. Aaaaah! Good lord help me out here! I’ll survive it somehow I guess… but after that it’s home time!! Sooo excited flying home for Christmas and New Year. Some good stuff happening at home with definitely a lot of music. Playing in the afternoon and evening on Christmas Eve and the big concert on New Year’s Day! Luckily there’s lot friends at home during Christmas time because everyone is visiting family at that time of the year. So there will be a lot reunions and great times! Also there’s friends and family visiting us over New Year, another great reason why the time back home is going to be awesome.
Festival planning is going forward. I’m meeting up with the manager of Eilean Dorcha Festival which is the local music festival here in Benbecula. I’ll hopefully get some insight into the planning, what to think of and important things to organize. Before that I obviously want to have an idea or a list of things I want to include in the festival and what my idea of the whole thing is. That’s what I’m working on right now and there’s a lot of things let me tell you. I could write a looooong list of what needs to be thought of but I suppose that would make this blog too long. Nevertheless, hopefully after talking to the manager I will be able to have a better idea of the whole organizationand then when I get back home I can talk to the major, sponsors and everyone who needs to be included in the festival. Let’s do this!
Saturday we had an early start to the day because the plan was to go up Eabhal! Remember the tree that is right in front of my bedroom window? Yes, exactly. That one. We started of at 10 in the morning and it was a gorgeous day! It was cold but very calm and nice. No clouds in the sky. No wind. Perfect to climb up the hill. It started with a very, very long passage of only going straight, not even up the hill but the views very already stunning. Flat calm lakes and the sun rise behind the hill were just stunning. Eventually we managed to get to the foot of the hill and it was a quite steep way up but it wasn’t too long. The views changed every time you would walk a bit higher and it didn’t take long till we saw Skye. What a stunning view, it seems like Skye is just a stone throw away. On the other side there are the Uists and we realized how much water there actually is and that is actually more water than land, it is basically just a few land bits in between the water. After two and a half hours we reached the top and enjoyed the gorgeous views from up there. I could even see the house I stay in! A little lunch break and two hours later we arrived back at the car. What a lovely day! Definitely need to repeat that, possibly on another hill. Hecla on South Uist is next I guess.
Sunday was a lovely end of the week with a great time of one of our tutors’ house in North Uist. Some delicious cake and tea as well as long hours of chatting and a lot of tunes! They have a grand piano in their living and I just couldn’t resist it. What a wonderful sound grand pianos have! I also realized how much I miss my own piano or just in general having a piano at any time, being able to play or jam whenever I feel like it. I need to solve that problem somehow… Well nevertheless. The week is over and I can’t wait till next week is over because that means all the assignments are done, no VC’s and time to focus on some ideas I had in mind during the last couple of weeks. Let’s get this week over and done with!
Keep your heads up lads and remember Christmas is only 21 days away!
Cheerio bye,
Emilia
